Dr. Carin Harrington (Founder) Director of Environmental Design and Behavioural Conservation

Education:
Majored in zoology and design technology in Glasgow, Cambridge and Manchester Universities. Trained in Jersey, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Chester Zoos.

Initiated the renewed enrichment programme in Beijing Zoo in 2000 and was an active member of exhibit design team in Beijing. She now works in Nanjing zoo as a principal concept designer and is setting up the enrichment programme there.

Professional: CEO of Nanjing-based design and enrichment consultancy GEO (Gold Enrichment Organization China) China registered WOFE company.

Nick Chapin (Co-Founder)
Director of Architecture and Design

Education: 1999 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, BA of Public and Urban Affairs, 2002 University of New South Wales, Masters of Urban Design and Development

Professional: Promotes sustainable based architecture and environmental projects.
Nick is an American citizen resident in Shanghai where he is CEO of the Syntax Planning and Design firm (China registered WOFE) with offices in China and Vietnam

Stephen Poritz
Director of Architecture and Design

Stephen is Principal of Arc8X Design and has a track record of innovative environmentally and socially conscious projects, sustainable design and green practices. He has over 20 years of design and construction experience, having lived in North America, Europe (Basel and Moscow) and Asia. He is a registered Architect, AIA, IIDA, in the United States and LEED Accredited Professional and received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.

Arc8X is a Design led Consulting Company providing Multi-National Clients with Architectural, Interior Design and Turn-Key D&B solutions. They have been active with Zoo improvements and exhibit design in Shanghai since 2003. In that year they renovated the model Chimpanzee Exhibit room and in 2004 completed the outdoor climbing exhibit and chimp art museum. In 2005 they completed the Orangutan exhibit renovation and in 2007 designed and completed the new Gorilla Exhibit building and was active in the preliminary planning for the Fuzhou Zoo master plan.

Education: Undergraduate Zoology Student at Massey University, New Zealand

Professional: 5 years experience on managing a street pet protection organization, assistant to a Beijing veterinary surgeon for six months in 2005 and initiator of ShenZhen small animal protection organization. Two years with GBF running BITE group and coordinating enrichment projects and student training.

Education: Undergraduate Media Studies at Beijing Public University.

Ginger works closely with Carin, George and John to oversee day to day operations of the Foundation and is a true animal lover!
